Beyond the Binary
Being an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community requires knowledge about the issues impacting the community, a deep respect for diversity and intersectionality, and a support system. To that end, members of the Rainbow Action Committee (RAC) have created Beyond the Binary. Beyond the Binary will offer updated modular learning opportunities that will help º£½ÇÍø employees learn and refresh their understanding of various LGBTQIA+ subject areas to better support students and our college community.
Why is this work important?
Through this training, we hope to support both º£½ÇÍø students and employees by:
- Upholding º£½ÇÍø’s responsibility to create a safe climate for all students
- Helping students identify allies on campus
- Making issues around sexual identity visible and positive
- Creating a network of role models for mentoring and supporting LGBTQIA+ community members
- Create a stronger sense of community through greater understanding of LGBTQIA+ culture and issues
- Providing allies and advocates with resources
